Confirmation Class Cookout

Confirmation Class Cookout

Current Confirmation students and their mentors are invited to a special summer gathering at the home of George Hubbard on Saturday, June 15th beginning at 5:00pm.

We don’t have regular confirmation classes through the summer months, but in order to stay connected and continue our journey together, we have planned a number of special events scattered throughout the summer for fun and fellowship.

For this event, youth and mentors are asked to bring a picnic side dish to share. George will provide our main dish as well as games and beverages. Transportation will be available from the church for anyone who needs it—contact Joel or Pastor Katie for more information.

Don’t miss it!

Vacation Bible School 2024

Vacation Bible School

August 5th thru 8th

The Christian Education Committee is excited to begin preparations for our 2024 Vacation Bible School! Our theme this year is We are God’s People.

We are God’s People will go through different stories in the bible that include Solomon from Solomon’s Temple, Jesus and the Resurrection, the man who was lowered through the roof for Jesus to heal, and on the final night our focus is We are the Body when we reflect on how we all have different gifts but together we form the body of Christ.

Bible School is led by members of our CE Committee and is open to children aged 4 through those who have completed fifth grade. Older children and youth are welcome to participate as volunteers. This year we have four fun-filled evenings planned from August 5 through 8. We ask that children are dropped off shortly before 5:30 so our light meal can begin at 5:30, and our evening ends with class concluding at 7:30.

This is an excellent opportunity for friends, neighbors, cousins, and grandchildren. Please spread the word to members and non-members alike, the more the merrier!

Registration is online only.

To volunteer or for questions please contact our Director of Children, Youth, and Family Ministries, Joel Morien, at (920) 437-8121 or email ce@firstpresgreenbay.org

We look forward to seeing the children at VBS in August!

Pentecost – Youth Sunday

Pentecost Sunday

Sunday, May 19th

The Festival of Pentecost is probably the least-known of all the church holy days. It occurs 50 days after Easter, marking the arrival of the promised Holy Spirit. It’s the official birthday of the Church, the time when the disciples and others understood their charge to go out and preach, teach, heal, and make disciples of all nations.

This Pentecost, Sunday May 19th, our youth will lead our 10am worship service, preaching and teaching just as the disciples did after Jesus’ resurrection. It’s an opportunity for our youth to let their talents and abilities shine. During the service, they showcase their gifts in a number of ways from performing the readings to giving the sermon. In collaboration with the worship committee, the youth are hard at work preparing the details of which youth will do the various responsibilities within worship. As a group they will choose the prayers and music that fits Pentecost Sunday and also the accompaniment of the music that’s selected. The steps in preparation of, and the actual worship service is a spiritual experience that draws each youth closer to their faith.

Following worship, we hope you’ll join us in fellowship hour where you’ll have the opportunity to thank the youth for all their efforts in taking the lead during worship on this Day of Pentecost.

Letter Carriers Food Drive 2024

Letter Carriers Food Drive

The Letter Carriers food drive is on Saturday – May 11, 2024. We need to supply two individuals to help out at the Cofrin post office that day (this is very important, as if we don’t provide people, we will not be able to participate in the food drive next year).

Volunteers are needed at 9:00am and will be given a route to pick up food on. Stephanie Fahringer and Al Smith will be loading the bags into totes but we could really use donations of paper shopping bags, preferably with handles.

We are also in need of four people to help at church at 3:00pm that day by unloading, sorting, and putting away the food that our Presbyterian Pantry receives.

Please contact Gene Stenson at 920-241-4370 if you are able to help. Thank you for your support!

Batter Up!

FirstPresGB Baseball

It’s that time of year when we prepare for our return to the field with our #FirstPresGB co-ed softball team. The season gets underway in May and ends with playoffs at the season end in late summer. The schedule will be released soon so stay tuned for that, but we’ll be playing at the same field we’ve been at for the last seven years, Cornerstone in DePere. Our time of play will vary with each game on Sundays at 4:15, 5:45 or 6:30pm.

Men, women and youth age 14 and older are welcome to join the team! Practices are primarily getting together before game time and when it comes to the playing schedule matching up with your schedule, you play ball when you’re able to play ball. No commitment required.

If you’re not up for joining the team, volunteer field and plate umpires are always needed. No experience required. You just need to say – “you’re out”, “you’re safe”, “ball” or “strike”. It’s that easy!

So, mark your calendars for Sundays this summer to play, cheerlead or umpire our softball games. It’s a night of fun, fellowship and a little bit of exercise that you don’t want to miss out on!

For more information or to sign up to batter up or umpire contact George Hubbard by calling or texting (920) 680-1421 or email georgeahubbard@yahoo.com. See you at the ballpark!

Augusta Jeffrey 2024 Awarded

Augusta W. Jeffrey Rcognition Award

Awarded April 21, 2024

The Augusta Jeffrey Award was established in 2004 by the family of long-time member Augusta Jeffrey to recognize a member of First Presbyterian for outstanding volunteer efforts and service in our church. Areas of service may include: Mission, Worship, Member Care, Christian Education, Administration, and Evangelism. Nominations are gathered in the month of February every year and the recipient is chosen in March. The recipient receives a gift of $600 from the fund established by the Jeffrey family that is allocated to an area in the church chosen by the awardee.

On Sunday, April 21st during worship, the 2024 Augusta Jeffrey Award will be presented to Becky Christianson. She was nominated by several Session members who noted her exemplary service as Clerk of Session for the last two years. She takes the minutes of each meeting and keeps the meetings on track with her knowledge of the Book of Order and Robert’s Rules of Order. She has also taken on the clean-up and rewriting of many church policies and procedure manuals, in light of recent mandates from the denomination. Becky does it all with attention to detail and dedication, but also a light heart. While much of her volunteer work is behind the scenes and not visible to the whole congregation, we all benefit from her commitment and diligence.

Thank you, Becky!

Griffin String Quartet Plays In Worship

Griffin String Quartet

Sunday – April 14, 2024

The Griffon String Quartet, who offer monthly free concerts in our sanctuary for the community and regularly use our space for rehearsal, are scheduled to play for our 10am worship service on Sunday, April 14th.

The Griffon is a full-time professional quartet who work and perform in Door County and Green Bay. They offer programs and lessons in schools throughout our area, and also play regularly for aging and disabilities institutions. Their stated goals are to educate, enrich and excite their audiences with the gift of old and new music. They will be playing multiple pieces throughout the service as well as accompanying some of our congregational hymns. This is their thank-you to us for providing the space for concerts and practices, and they are delighted to be with us for this special worship service.

Don’t miss it!

April 2024 Fourth Sunday Forum

Fourth Sunday Forum

Sunday, April 28th

Our final Fourth Sunday Forum for this program year will be held on Sunday, April 28th before worship in the Fellowship Room at 9:00am.

We are pleased to have Ellen Smith, a member of our congregation and long-time mission co-worker for the PC(USA) to Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, and Poland.

Ellen’s presentation “Seeking Hope From the Margins” will provide an update on her recent travels and what they prompt her to pray and think about.

She writes: “Globally, people are on the move. Why are they leaving their homes, their communities, and their culture? What are the barriers they face? Hope is a hard thing. Let’s consider what our theology of welcome is all about.”

Coffee and treats will be served.

Henri Holl Baptism

Henri Holl

Sunday April 21, 2024

Baptism, one of just two sacraments in our Presbyterian tradition, is always a blessing as we welcome a new person into the family of God.

Last month we had the opportunity to baptize Lydia Morien and this month we will baptize Henry Holl on Sunday, April 21st.

Henry will be just over five months old at his baptism, and his loving big brother Peter will stand with proud parents Bobbi and David along with extended family and friends for this special occasion.

Look how much he’s grown since his first attendance at church five months ago (pictured here)!

What a blessing!
