Back to School 2022 Drive for Tank

Tank School

August 1-31 are the dates for our annual Tank Back to School supply drive! Tank Elementary School is one of the most ethnically diverse and needy schools in the Green Bay public school district. Our church has “adopted” Tank and has a long history of supporting and interacting with the school and students.

Every child should have new pencils, crayons, glue, etc. for school. The list of supplies can be downloaded here or copies are on the table in the narthex. There will be a table at the back of the Sanctuary to deposit your donations when you are here on Sundays, or any other day Monday – Thursday 9:30 am to 2:00 p.m. through August 31.

We can also shop for you if you’d prefer – checks should have the notation BTS supplies and if online, choose the “other” fund and note BTS.

THANK YOU for your support!

Our softball season came to a close on July 10th as we ended the season with a record of 4 and 3. We are seeded 6th in the Division 2 playoffs. Playoffs began on Sunday the 17th and we walked away with an 8-6 win for our first round. The second playoff round was a doubleheader on July 24th and we defeated 3rd seeded Peace with a score of 32 to 6 (wow!) and game two we defeated 1st seeded Journey #3 with a score of 18-16. The Division 2 Championship Game will be played on Sunday, July 31st – with results yet to be determined when we went to press – but watch our social media post-game for the Championship Game outcome!

Welcome New Members

On Thursday, June 23rd at the Session meeting and on Sunday, July 31st in worship, our congregation received the following new members: Joanne LaCourt, Mary Jane McCrory, Fritzi Mevis, Brittany Morien, Joel Morien (and their daughter Aubrey), and Sue Russell. Please make an effort to welcome them into the family of faith.

2022 General Assembly

A summary of the 225th General Assembly (2022) actions can be viewed here. Israel and Palestine relations, fossil fuel divestment, and OGA/PMA unification were among the major issues addressed.

Church Chix had a blast!

We had 13 Chix in attendance during our Church Chix July social gathering on July 21st at 1951 West. The restaurant was great, service was great and there was great food – but more importantly there was great laughter, fun and fellowship! Join the Chix for their August social at A’Bravo on August 18th at 6pm. Sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board or RSVP to office@firstpresgreenbay.org. Hope you can join the Chix!

Chrysalis Women’s Retreat

Chrysalis Women's Retreat

Our Theme: Honing Hospitality

Calling all women: you deserve a weekend away! Come join Pastor Katie August 18-21 for a women’s retreat focusing on the nourishment and support of body, mind and spirit in community with other women.

Katie will be the featured speaker this summer at Clearwater Chrysalis, a long-running program for women at Presbyterian Clearwater Forest camp in Deerwood, Minnesota. The retreat features worship, music, large group presentations, small group discussions, workshops, and plenty of free time to enjoy the lake, hiking trails, high ropes course, labyrinth, and loons. Lodging options include rustic summer cabins and hotel-like lodges with shared baths. The theme, Honing Hospitality, will have us engaged in thinking about how to hone our hospitality skills with God and with one another as we consider how we might practice a broader hospitality in the world.

For more information or to register, contact Pastor Katie at kestes@firstpresgreenbay.org or call 920-437-8121 before August 10th.

A Program Year Preview

Christian Education

The lake is still calling, the barbeque grill is still fired up, and there may be several more summer reads on your list, but we are looking ahead to the start of a new program year! Mark your calendars for September 11th as our kick-off Sunday. Kids will be back to school so bring those backpacks for a special blessing during worship. Come learn about all the options for education, fellowship and faith formation this year. Creative things are in the planning stages for the worship service and fellowship hour that day, so don’t miss it!

Sunday School

Other dates to note: our next adult Bible study begins September 7th/8th, Youth group will begin on Wednesday September 14th, and Sunday school and Confirmation classes start on Sunday September 18th. For more information or to volunteer, contact Pastor Katie at kestes@firstpresgreenbay.org or Director of Children, Youth and Families, Joel Morien, at ce@firstpresgreenbay.org or call 920-437-8121.

Brat Fry Volunteers Needed

Brat Fry

We need your help to make our Brat Fry a success!

Please consider volunteering to serve or cashier at one of our two upcoming Brat Fries:

Sunday, August 14th will be hosted by the Outreach Committee with proceeds benefitting the Pantry

Sunday, August 28th will be hosted by the Youth Group with proceeds benefitting youth programs

Both brat fries take place at Festival Foods on University and there will be two volunteer shifts to choose from:

9am to 1pm and 1pm to 5pm

If you can help out as a volunteer sign up sheets are on the bulletin board or contact Kevin Kabacinski at 920-619-4458. And, as a thank you bonus, all volunteers receive a FREE brat. Now, there’s nothing better than that!

We’re hoping for good weather, hungry customers and outstanding volunteers to feed them. Thanks in advance for considering to help.

Well done, Good and Faithful Servant

Thank You for Serving

With deep thanksgiving for her 5+ years of ministry with us and sadness at her departure, the Personnel Committee announces the resignation of Lynne Nelson, financial secretary to the church.

Lynne has managed our budget, paid our bills, kept our books, recorded our gifts, answered questions, crunched numbers, and smiled through it all! She leaves us in solid financial standing with organized files and clear processes. We sincerely hope she will be able to help train her successor (as soon as we find one). Join us on Sunday, August 14th in the worship service and at a special reception to follow when we’ll recognize all Lynne’s gifts and wish her Godspeed in her next endeavors.
