Annual 2024 Ski Trip

Annual Ski Trip

The snow has begun to fly so the time has come to have some fun on the slopes at our annual Ski Trip! This year we’ll once again be joined by our friends from First United Presbyterian Church of DePere.

And, although primarily coordinated with Youth Group, the ski trip is considered a family event so all are welcome to join!

Our ski destination is Ski Brule and we’ll be checking in on Friday, January 26th, checking out Saturday, January 27th at the Chicaugon Lake Inn

We will need a minimum of 20 skiers to take advantage of the Ski Brule group discount so spread the word to family, friends and neighbors. The more the merrier!

We hope to see you on the slopes!

All Saints Sunday 2023

All Saints Sunday

For all the saints, who from their labors rest…

November brings us to a season of thanksgiving, and we are surely thankful for all the “saints” of this congregation and throughout our extended families who have gone on to their heavenly homes in the past year.

On Sunday, November 5 we will celebrate All Saints’ Day in 10 am worship, remembering especially Ginney Amen, Allen Collins, Karen Walker and Joanne Herman. We have reached out to surviving family members, inviting them to participate in this special celebration. We are looking for a picture or two of each deceased member to project during the worship service. As those photos are projected, we will join in prayer for all the saints and remember each name. As the names are read, a family member or friend will come forward to light a candle for each one. Following the recognition of all our members, others will be invited to come forward and light a candle for a friend or family member they have lost in the last year as well.

We remember and give thanks for all those who have gone before us to show us the way—don’t miss this special worship experience.

November 2023 Fourth Sunday Forum

4th Sunday Forum - Internet Safety

“Internet Safety: How To Protect Yourself Online”

Our new opportunity for adult enrichment and connection on the fourth Sunday of each month has been well-received! We continue this month on November 26th from 9:00 to 9:45 am in Fellowship Room with a special presentation from our own Lisa Olson on Internet Safety.

Lisa has recently retired from the Green Bay Public schools after a long career in internet technology, and she brings us a wealth of knowledge in how to stay safe and still make use of all the rich resources technology has to offer. Learn about the importance of knowing what apps to access on your phone or tablet, and how to be careful about where you give your personal information. She will also address what AI is, and why we should care. Bring your questions and your concerns—coffee and treats will be available, too.

2023 Advent Bible Study

Holy Disruption Discovering Advent in the Gospel of Mark

Begins November 29th & 30th

Where’s the baby?! The Gospel of Mark doesn’t have a nativity story—so where’s the Advent message? It’s in every aspect of Jesus’ life, to his death and beyond. The incarnation—God’s coming to earth in human form to be baptized, teach, heal, eat, and die—is what we celebrate at Christmas, and Mark shows us just how radical and celebration worthy it is.

Holy Disruption presents a fresh understanding of the holiness of Christmas grounded not in a conventional, cozy Christmas message but through Mark’s disquieting Gospel, which invites its readers to experience God’s disruptive but transformative love for us and our world.

Join us on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30pm via Zoom or on Thursday mornings from 11:00am to noon in the Fellowship Room. The lesson is the same for each group, so you may move back and forth as your schedule necessitates. Books will be available by mid-November in the church office or from Pastor Katie.

FUPC 2023 Thanksgiving Dinner

FUPC 2023 Thanksgiving

November 18, 2023

Our sisters and brothers in Christ at First United Presbyterian Church in DePere have invited us to join them once again for a special worship service celebrating Thanksgiving followed by a Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday, November 18.

Worship will be at 4:00pm and Pastor Katie will preach the sermon this year. Pastors Meggan and Luke Farwell will also participate. Choir Director Andy Parks is assembling singers from both churches to comprise a choir, so all are welcome to join in. A delicious Thanksgiving dinner will follow the service, and is open to the community.

Let’s have a big showing from our congregation in response to this gracious invitation—we ALL have so much to be thankful for.

World Communion Sunday and Global Foods Potluck

World Communion Sunday

Sunday – October 1, 2023

This Sunday we will join Christian churches all over the world to celebrate World Communion Sunday as we gather at Christ’s table for the sacrament.

Following worship that day, all are invited to continue the celebration at a global foods-themed potluck in the Fellowship Room.

Plan to try out a new recipe or bring a favorite from your own ethnic background, but the point is to have a wide variety of foods from around the world as our lunch together.

All items should be labelled with ingredients listed, and we’ll enjoy fellowship around the tables as we sample foods we may have never tasted before!

Please join us!

Generosity Sunday – Grazie, Grazie, Molte Grazie!

Commitment Sunday Spaghetti Dinner

Spaghetti Dinner October 22nd

Imagine red-and-white checked tablecloths, wine bottle centerpieces with dripping candles, and waiters in berets and mustaches…what?

Sunday, October 22nd is Generosity Sunday, the conclusion of our “I’m In!” pledge campaign toward the 2024 budget for our congregation.

The Generosity Team wants to say “grazie” to all who have contributed to make it happen, from video participants to pledgers to volunteers throughout our church, so we’re hosting an Italian dinner to thank you all.

Following our service of worship, everyone is invited to Banner Hall for a spaghetti dinner featuring marinara and Bolognese sauce, garlic bread, and salad. Dessert is a special Italian surprise!

Please sign up on the bulletin board so we know how much food to prepare!

On Sunday, October 15th in our service of worship at 10am, we will officially receive four new members who are already blessing our congregation.

Our coffee fellowship time following worship will be another opportunity to welcome them and express our gratitude for their presence among us in the body of Christ.

Brief biographies were shared in our September Newsletter last month for Carole Biddick, Kris and Mike Melton, and Barbara Perret (not pictured).

October 2023 Bible Study

Harvest of Righteousness Book Cover

New Bible Study Begins October 25th & 26th

Harvest of Righteousness by Rebecca Bradburn Langer will be our next Bible study, beginning Wednesday, October 25 at 6:30 via Zoom and Thursday, October 26 at 11am in person.

After finishing up Theology for Presbyterians we’ll be taking a different approach and focusing on the spiritual discipline of devotional reading of scripture for five weeks.

The workbook draws on the rich treasure of biblical passages, devotional readings, prayers, and helpful exercises to develop or redevelop this ancient discipline for its readers.

Less a “study” and more a “plunge into the text,” it will be a new experience for some and a refreshing change for others. Please come join us! In mid October, books are available from Pastor Katie for $10.

All are welcome!

Break Every Chain Anti-Human Trafficking Awareness Program

Human Trafficking Awareness Zoom Event

Covenant Community Presbyterian Church (CCPC) is inviting the churches in Winnebago Presbytery to watch the Anti-Human Trafficking Awareness Program on Oct. 21, 2023 at First United Presbyterian Church of DePere located at 605 N Webster Avenue in DePere from 9:30am till 11:30am.

Human Trafficking happens in every county in Wisconsin and involves the exploitation of children, women, and men for the purpose of commercial sex or compelled labor. We believe that knowledge of the trafficking Red Flags and how children and adults are groomed and deceived can make our communities safer. We believe that awareness of this crime may save a life and prevent a child, women, or man from becoming a victim of the horrific crime of Human Trafficking.

The Program includes: Awareness, Prevention and Local Professionals speaking about what is happening in our area.

More details are below – please join us!
