2023 Souper Bowl of Caring

Souper Bowl of Caring

Save—the—Date: February 12, 2023

Thanks to Covid, our Souper Bowl of Caring has taken a hiatus since 2020 but we have our grand return planned for Sunday February 12, 2023!

The Souper Bowl of Caring is a national movement. Since 1990, over $175 million has been reported donated to local food charities across all fifty states with over 305,000 unique groups participating. The organizers unite all communities to Tackle Hunger.

Our #FirstPresGB Souper Bowl of Caring is led by the Christian Education Committee along with Youth Group and is held annually on Super Bowl Sunday. The event is meant to bring an awareness to hunger and to curb hunger through soup. The cost will be $5/person and there will be 8 different soup stations for people to experience. Each soup sampler will have a chance to vote and judge our Souper Bowl winner. The awardee will receive the cherished Golden Spoon that’s passed on year over year to the awarded winner.

More details will follow in February’s newsletter but in the meantime, we’re looking for 8 soup chefs to help us pull this off! All you need to do is craft a crock pot full of your favorite soup.

If you’re able to be one of our 8 soup chefs, please contact Director of Children, Youth and Families, Joel Morien, at ce@firstpresgreenbay.org

Annual 2023 Ski Trip – January 27-28

Annual Ski Trip

The snow has begun to fly so the time has come to have some fun on the slopes at our annual Ski Trip!

And, although primarily coordinated with Youth Group, the ski trip is considered a family event so all are welcome to join.

Our ski destination is Ski Brule and we’ll be checking in on Friday January 27th, checking out Saturday January 28th at the Chicaugon Lake Inn

We will need a minimum of 20 skiers to take advantage of the Ski Brule group discount so spread the word to family, friends and neighbors. The more the merrier!

Registration forms can be found in the back of the sanctuary or can be downloaded here.

We hope to see you on the slopes!

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 2022

Christmas Morning

Christmas Eve is on Saturday, December 24 which means Christmas Day falls on a Sunday this year! Because of the tight calendar, we will host one service only on Christmas Eve, at 6:00 pm. This service will feature special choral music, an extended message for the children present, and candlelighting.

On Christmas morning at 10:00 am we will gather for a casual service of lessons and carols and we encourage everyone to wear your Christmas pajamas or Christmas sweaters or other festive garb. There will be no fellowship hour after either of these services.

Bring your family and join us for either or both times of worship.

Please Support Christmas Prayer Baskets 2022

Christmas Prayer Baskets

It’s not too late to help with our 2022 Christmas Prayer Baskets!

If you haven’t already heard, we’re excited to once again be ‘adopting’ three families from nearby Tank Elementary School to bless with our love, prayers and Christmas gifts and a meal. And it’s not too late for you to support the cause!

We’ve obtained wish lists for the children and adults in each family and those wishes have been placed in three separate baskets on the table in the back of the Narthex. Members should take a tag or tags from the baskets and return your gifts to the church unwrapped by Thursday, December 15th. Monetary contributions are also welcome.

We are also in need of individuals or households who would be willing to coordinate each of the three families. The coordinator’s role is to make sure the wishes are distributed and returned, then to deliver the gifts and meal. Our youth group will wrap and tag all the gifts during their December 16th lock-in.

If you’re interested in becoming one of the coordinators, please contact the church office at office@firstpresgreenbay.org or sign-up sheets are on the Outreach bulletin board at the bottom of the stairs in Banner Hall.

Thank you for your support!

Please Support Our 2022 Christmas Toy Shop

Christmas Toy Shop

This year our Toy Shop, that benefits Pantry guests, will be held on Tuesday, December 13th. Please consider donating toys to support our cause.

Toys are needed for ages 2 through 18 years old and should be dropped off before Sunday, December 11th. Toys for teenagers are especially needed. Please place your unwrapped donations in the toy chest that’s at the bottom of the Sanctuary stairs.

And for those who’re not interested in shopping, you can contribute with a monetary gift by selecting the Pantry Toy Shop Fund through our online giving portal or send a check to the office at 200 S. Ashland Avenue, 54302 and note Toy Shop in the memo line.

As guests arrive for the Pantry between 10am and noon, they’ll receive a slip of paper to shop the toy shop. We’re in need of 3-4 of Santa’s elves to be personal shoppers for our guests. Personal shoppers will assist our guests to choose from the age-appropriate selection of toys. If you’re able to help as a personal shopper elf, please call Jane Bies at 920-621-6400.

Thank you for your support and for helping us make a Merrier Christmas for those in need!

December 2022 Rundown

Monthly Rundown

Trunk-or-Treat

Ten decorated trunks, 50+ costumed guests, and hundreds of tasty treats! Our first annual Trunk or Treat was a spooky success. Thanks to all who hosted a trunk and all who turned out for treats!

Thanksgiving with our friends at First United

A glorious joint service of thanksgiving was held on Saturday November 19, 2022 at First United Presbyterian Church in De Pere with more than 75 people present from the two congregations. The service was followed by a delicious turkey dinner for everyone present. We raised $366.48 in free will offering, plus a grocery cart of canned good for the Presbyterian Pantry. Thank you, everyone, for your generous support!

You’re Invited to Trunk-or-Treat 2022!

Spread the word to friends, family and neighbors!

All are invited to our

Halloween Trunk-or-Treat event!

Sunday, October 30th at 2pm

Trunks of cars will be open and decorated for Halloween and parked around the perimeter of First Presbyterian Church’s parking lot located at 200 South Ashland Avenue, Green Bay.

We invite everyone to come and trick-or-treat at our trunks moving from one car to the next to collect treats, and perhaps play a game along the way.

Please pass this on to all those little ghouls and goblins that you know, and join us!

Advent Workshop 2022

Advent Workshop

Sunday, November 27

It seems like we barely put away the Thanksgiving leftovers and suddenly it is Advent! Advent begins this year on Sunday, November 27th and we will kick off the season with our annual Advent workshop following worship.

Open to all ages, this event will feature crafts, activities, and Kevin’s famous chili lunch. Plans are shaping up for some very special gift-making stations, so you can get a jump on your gift list by creating homemade hot cocoa spoons or soup mixes.

We also plan to include an opportunity to decorate gift bags for meals that go out through the ADRC (Aging & Disability Resource Center). And of course, as always, we’ll have cut-out cookies to decorate (and eat!).

Please join us for this all-church celebration.

FMSC 2022 MobilePack Rundown

FMSC MobilePack

The 2022 Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) Mobilepack was a great success during the week of October 3rd!

Over 614,520 meals were packed during the Mobilepack, which will feed 1683 kids for an entire year!!

There were over 2,800 volunteers that came to pack food during the 10 different packing sessions. There were also 75 different event support volunteers from the churches that worked in greeting, registration, and roving to make sure everything ran smoothly.

While the Green Bay Mobilepack is finished for the year, we are still in need of donations to help cover the cost of the food that was packed.

Please prayerfully consider a generous donation to this worthy cause. Select FMSC in the dropdown menu and Donate Now!
